Biography
Life hasn’t been the same since late 2000 for the Portuguese emotional punkrockers Easyway. Brimming with experience across a broad range of underground music, band members Tiago, Miguel, Rodrigo and André got together through a shared love of punk rock, and haven’t looked back since.
In 2001, the band entered a studio for the first time and set about recording a seven track demo cd, a piece of work that earned the band a lot of positive attention within the industry. At the end of the summer of 2001, original drummer Rodrigo was replaced by former Sacred Sin (successful Portuguese metallers) drummer Danilo Warick. With the line up cemented, the band played live whenever and wherever they could, in order to further their reputation as an incredible live band.
After teeming up with the Spanish band Gas Drummers and their friends Aside for some concerts together, Easyway started recording at the OCV Studio’s in Lisbon in 2003.
With the recordings completed, guitarist and sound engineer Miguel headed to Los Angeles where the mixing and production job was slaved over by the well known producer Cameron Webb (who is best known for his work with the bands Limp Bizkit, Staring Back, Social Distortion and Danzig, among others).
In the meantime, Easyway were invited to support Lagwagon and Joey Cape -singer with Lagwagon - liked what he heard so much, he made a guest appearence on the ‘Forever In A Day’ debut album. The result of that duet is a huge, unrelenting punk song with Easyway’s trademark beautiful melodies.
In November of 2003, a split cd with the Brazilian band It Feels Good was released on the Brazilian label Oneliferecords.
In 2004, bass player André made the decision to leave the band. Miguel, long time friend and Fonzie's ex-bass player, took his place. The debut album ‘Forever In A Day’ was released in April 2004 in Belgium, Netherlands, Germany and Denmark through Funtime Records.
The one month European tour that followed rocked it’s way through Spain, France, Belgium and the Netherlands!! The response was absolutely overwhelming...!!
In June came the Portuguese release of "Forever In A Day" through Raging Planet Records, which lead to a string of very successful live shows, including a well-received Backyard Babies support slot, and several national festivals (playing with the likes of Danko Jones, Moonspell and others), as well as nationwide press, radio and TV coverage (MTV Portugal, for example). September saw them support The Offspring on their Lisbon show, with amazing public reaction and feedback. The video for their ‘Forever In A Day’ single spent fifteen weeks on the MTV Portugal Histlist, having reached the number 2.
Following : a successful 9-date tour of France and Switzerland during February, the band went on to wow crowds and critics throughout April when they visited Holland, Belgium and Germany. Their second single, ‘That’s Not The Right Way’, went straight into the MTV Hitlist at number 6, above artists as prestigious as Green Day, Garbage and Gwen Stefani.
May 2005 saw the Super Bock Super Rock festival debut alongside Turbonegro and The Hives, on a bill that also included Iggy & The Stooges, Marilyn Manson, Incubus, New Order and System Of A Down, and a very successful Japanese release.
THE NEW ALBUM
The summer of 2005 was packed with back-to-back national tours and September saw them return to Belgium for the 4th time to Headline the Funtime Festival, and go back to the studio to record their second album ‘Can you keep a secret?'. Swedish Pelle Saether (Bombshell Rocks, No Fun at All) was in charge of the mixing and Peter in de Betou (No Fun At All, Raised Fist, Millencolin) of the mastering..
‘Can you keep a secret?' is released in the Benelux through Funtime Records on the 16th of october 2006 and the band did a cd presentation at this year’s funtime festival (23th of sep). In October the band flies over once again to do a Benelux tour and they will play a whole lot of shows together with bands like Useless ID, Homer etc.. ‘Your Worst Enemy', the new single, will be released in all of Europe on October 9th as part of the Eastpak Antidote Compilation 06, which includes tracks by bands like Gogol Bordello, Disco Ensemble, Danko Jones and Sun Eats Hours.

Easyway – Laudamus Vita
Wat gebeurt er als er teveel talent zit in een vierkoppige band? Inderdaad, dan maak je conceptplaten en probeer je net dat ietsje meer te doen. Easyway wou niet enkel een losstaand album maken dus besloten ze om een conceptplaat te maken, niet zomaar één, ze maakten een volledige film ter ondersteuning van hun verhaal. Hun single ‘The Viewer’ is een duet met onze eigen Belgische K’s Choice zangeres Sarah Bettens. Je denkt het waarschijnlijk ook al, wat bezielt die mannen om zo ver te gaan om hun verhaal naar buiten te brengen? Ik versta het uiteindelijk wel, een conceptplaat die niet goed ondersteunt wordt door andere media verliest vaak zijn sterkte en diepgang. Nu; het concept is simpel. Er is een verhaal en er zijn 16 nummers die best perfect passen bij elkaar. Elke scène heeft een overkoepelend nummer die perfect uitlegt wat er gebeurt. Zonder de nummers zou de film verliezen in kracht en omgekeerd. De vraag is nu of dit in feite niet gewoon een film soundtrack plaat is? Wel, eigenlijk wel, maar de nummers zijn op hun eigen zo sterk dat je geen connecties hoeft te leggen met de film. Eens de film is gezien wordt het beest wel bij zijn naam genoemd. Zoals eerder vermeld staan er 16 nummers op deze plaat die een film van om en bij de 70 minuten moet vullen. Weinig dialoog en veel muziek, dat is hiervan het gevolg. Hoewel de nummers telkens wel het verhaal vertellen is het toch een harde appel om door te bijten. We schrijven hier geen filmverslagen, dus daar wijd ik niet over uit, maar dit eenmaal uitgezien verbrede mijn kijk op het hele Laudamus Vita concept en ik genoot er oprecht van. Heel wat rustige en triestige scènes waar een redelijk hard nummer op moest werd zodanig gemonteerd dat het toch paste (cfr. Kerkhof scène) . Het enige nadeel is misschien dat de stem wat gewenning eist. De meeste bands worden toch genekt hierdoor, want muzikaal zit het heel erg goed. Koop die plaat maar, is een van de enige bands die het aandurft (en zelfs aankan!) en ze doen dit op een heel erg sterke manier. Nu hopen dat ze een projector mee hebben op het podium zodat ik live kan genieten van het verhaal.
