Onze eigenste Belgische – ondergewaardeerde – trots PN komt op de proppen met hun zevende studioplaat. Het duurde maar liefst 2 jaar om dit klaar te krijgen om de nummers klaar te stomen voor het opnameproces, maar eerlijk als we zijn, het is de moeite.
‘From What Rivers Have To Offer’ is verkrijgbaar in 2 versies. Een knotsgekke versie bestaande uit een houten doos (sigarendoosje) waarvan het artwork zelf gegraveerd is. De eerste maal dat ik dit onder handen/ogen kreeg was het toch even m’n ogen uit m’n kop staren. De plaat klinkt alvast veel melodieuzer dan zijn voorganger ‘Through Satin Veils Gropes Desire’. Hij neigt in sommige delen sterk naar Queens Of The Stone Age en consoorten. Geen nood, nog steeds krijg je post-hardcore te horen in een intense sfeer. Op de titeltrack zorgt Annelies Tanghe voor het piano- en vioolarrangement en vergroot hierdoor het contrast tussen de rest van de nummers. Maar dit klinkt wel verschrikkelijk goed. Met ‘Pull Out The Story’ gaat PN zijn sentimentele kant zien, maar zelfs daar komen ze mee weg. Prachtige songstructuur en een geheel rustig en perfect verteerbaar nummer. Daarnaast heb je dan weer de typische PN-nummers -in hoeverre deze typisch zijn- zoals ‘Stone Roses, Dead Gardens’ en ‘Favours And Favourites’. Met al deze verschillende stijlen zou je kunnen zeggen dat PN niet weet welke weg ze moeten inslaan, maar niets is minder waar. De plaat klinkt als één geheel en kan gerust buiten het ‘hardcore’ gebied bekeken worden.
Ik moet gelukkig concluderen dat twee jaar werk niet voor niets was en dat PN een prachtplaat heeft afgeleverd. Voor fans van Tool, Deftones & Thursday, maar heeft op een eigenwijze manier zijn unieke sound gecreëerd. Het concept klopt en is zeker de moeite waard!

PN bestaat sinds 1992, tekende voor dertien releases en deed ruim zevenhonderd shows. Toch heeft de Belgische groep nooit een doorbraak weten te forceren. Dat komt wellicht doordat zanger Johan Quinten zijn handen al jaren vol heeft aan punk- en hardcorelabel Funtime (Soon, The Sedan Vault, Tenement Kids), of doordat hij er met Homer een serieuze tweede (punkrock)band op nahoudt. Zeker is dat PN nooit een duidelijk stijlstatement heeft kunnen maken. Our Pitiful Paradise (2000) leunde op gruizige metalcore, terwijl op The Art Of Being We (2004) een mix van emo en screamo klonk.
Het eclectische karakter van PN bereikt op From What Rivers Have To Offer zijn voorlopige hoogtepunt. Het album – uitgevoerd in een stijlvol sigarenkistje – begint met een screamonummer met woest gebrul en Face Tomorrow-achtige zang. Stone Roses, Dead Gardens lijkt met zijn stonervibe daarna wel op Kyuss, terwijl Pull Out This Story indie mixt met emo. Echt opvallend is het Lamb-achtige titelnummer, compleet met piano, viool en vocalen van de Leuvense zangeres Annelies Tanghe. Vreemd genoeg klinkt From What Rivers Have To Offer uiteindelijk toch als een geheel. Die prestatie alleen is al goed voor een doorbraak. Nu alleen de tijd nog zien te vinden. WOUTER DIELESEN

A local bias? Let me reassure you, when I review a Leuven band and start dropping Kyuss, Deftones, and Black Sabbath as references, I'm not playing favorites, just calling it like I hear it. 'Let the Muse Respond' starts with a lovingly Earth-y Sabbath riff that explodes into a Deftones-like freakfest and then settles into a Kyuss-like desert-drone. Tasty! "Stone Roses, Dead Gardens" is an even better mix of those ominous influences.
'From What Rivers Have to Offer' demonstrates a charming resolution to be it's own thing. From the packaging (wooden case, looks like a cigar box, cool!) to the fantastic diversity of the tunes, the world has never seen a hardcore release quite like this one: Not the best, just really unique. "Pull Out of this Story" sounds like it could be a Dischord track, tucked snuggly between Fugazi, Lungfish and Wilderness (who are not a Dischord band, but sound like one). On "How Can I Be You", the guitars and the vocals get decidedly more crunchy. And on "Favours and Favourites" PN headbutt their way into superior, tortured Nu (wave) Metal. Shit, my neck hurts! The album's biggest surprise is the title track with its somber, simple piano line and female vocals. Nice song that improbably sets itself up as this complex album's centerpiece.
For 10+ years, PN have slowly built a compelling resume of superior hardcore: proof positive that to find treasures, sometimes you don't have to go any further than your own backyard.

PN 'From What Rivers Have To Offer' CD
After Through Satin Veils Gropes Desire from 2006, From What Rivers Have To Offer is the second longplayer by Belgian postcore band PN. As in the past, the album is released by Belgian quality label Funtime which is run by some of the band members. This explains why PN don’t set themselves any stylistic limitations, allowing them to release a great album free of any constraints and compromises.
Their new CD starts rather quietly, but the opener Let The Muse Respond shows instantly that the band has still a fondness of hardcore, punk and metal. The song contains numerous mood shifts that should appeal to emo kids and the mosh crowd alike. The songs are performed mostly in a clean way and rarely have any jarring moments. Nevertheless there is still enough sense of dynamics and suspenseful setup to make listening a thrilling experience. The most unbridled track is doubtlessly How Can I Be You, which contains a stronger metalcore ratio but also slightly reminds of The Refused. More accessible sounds can be found on Favours And Favourites that has a more modern rock approach but also finds time for quieter moments. With its running time of nearly seven minutes, it’s the only longer piece on the album. The title track shows the band from its so far quietest side, with a slow buildup accompanied by piano sounds and melancholic vocal lines.
PN did everything right once again and have managed to craft a varied album, proving that even a small country like Belgium can boast a rich indie scene. The CD comes also in a limited edition with a wooden packaging reminding of a cigar box… As smoking is a stereotypical Belgian vice, I wonder if PN’s next album will come in a French Fries paper bag, to carry the joke even farther!

PN heeft alweer 17 jaar op de teller staan. Je zou het de sympathieke band niet geven, want het zevende studio album klinkt als het werk van een stel jonge honden. Voor wie niet bekend is met het oeuvre van de band : PN maakt atmosferische rock/metal, in het verlengde van bands als Tool en A Perfect Circle. De Belgische formatie heeft in de vorm van Johan Quinten een begenadigd zanger in de gelederen die diepe schreeuwzang moeiteloos afwisselt met melancholische vocalen. 'From What Rivers Have To Offer' is een huiveringwekkend mooi album met een intense sfeer. Geen langspeler die je elke dag opzet, maar wel een tijdloze klassieker die nog vaak uit de platenkast gehaald gaat worden.

Al voordat je ook maar één noot gehoord hebt van het nieuwe PN-album, krijg je al het idee een bijzonder plaatje in handen te hebben. Het zit namelijk verpakt in een eenvoudig houten doosje, met het minimalistische artwork erin gebrand. Daarbinnen zit de CD zelf tussen een als tekstvel/poster bedrukt stuk bruin pakpapier. Ook muzikaal is er weinig conventioneels aan dit zevende album van de Belgen. Genregrenzen? Hokjes? Labeltjes? Dat soort onzin is aan de heren niet besteed. Al komt de term 'post-emo-hardcore' die ze zelf gebruikten met betrekking tot de vorige plaat 'Through satin veils gropes desire' een aardig eind in de richting. Ze gooien werkelijk de meest uiteenlopende invloeden bij elkaar. Zo neigt een aantal nummers richting postcore, maar heeft 'stone roses, dead gardens' eerder een Kyuss-vibe. En het poëtische titelnummer , waarop ingetogen piano en viool gastzangeres Annelies Tanghe begeleiden , klinkt weer subtiel en breekbaar. Het eindresultaat klinkt wonderwel een stuk samenhangender dan je zou verwachten. Al met al een mooi contrastrijk plaatje, dat zo aan de haal kan met Rivella slogan 'een beetje vreemd, maar wel lekker!'

Always expanding their sound, one never really knows what to expect exactly of a new PN album. Sure, you can always hear these guys have their roots planted firmly in the punk and hardcore scene with a metal edge and there’s also the emotional angle they always play out. But there’s always more. A lot more.
Check out the opening track of their seventh album, which comes with an atmospheric intro before evolving into post-hardcore with Johan’s clean vocals and his brother Bert’s growls playing off of each other until the song stretches out well into stoner territory. The second song picks up on that same groove with howling guitars and a strong sense of melody. Or how about the title track which features piano, violin and guest vocalist Annelies Tanghe? Shit, that could’ve been on a Lamb album just the same! There’s not a single song on here that sounds like the one before it yet you can always tell it’s PN.
No song really stands out on “From What Rivers Have To Offer” but that’s only because the album has such a nice flow that it would be a shame not to listen to it from start to finish. Oh, and the limited edition of this one comes in a nice wooden box with engraved artwork. That’s something you don’t get if you download this album kids!

De gebroeders Johan en Bert Quinten blijven productief. Na de recente release van de Homer-plaat 'Wasteland Reflections' hebben ze nu ook een nieuwe PN-cd klaar. Uiteraard mogen de andere PN leden, drummer Jurgen en bassist Jimmy, niet over het hoofd gezien worden. Zij eisen op 'From What Rivers Have To Offer' een plekje op de voorgrond op, hoewel de plaat behoorlijk typisch PN-materiaal bevat. Dat betekent een kruidige mix van (post)-hardcore, metal en melodieuze pop. Of er een causaal verband bestaat tussen de sound en de meer naar de voorgrond getreden ritmesectie weten we niet, maar in deze cd zit een heel dikke vinger Queens of the Stone Age - wat uiteraard het algemene geluid ten goede komt.
De twee echte hoogtepunten van deze plaat worden ironisch genoeg aangebracht door niet-PN'ers. Enerzijds is er het prachtige en ingetogen titelnummer, waarvoor de stem van Annelies Tanghe en de viool van Beatrijs De Klerck werden ingehuurd. Anderzijds geeft het door Hanna Maes ontworpen artword 'From What Rivers Have To Offer' een uniek en klassevol cachet. (dg)

Het is doorgaans niet mijn gewoonte om de sigaren boven te halen tijden het bespreken van cd's. Maar in het geval van PN gaat het moeilijk anders. De cd steekt namelijk niet in een ordinair doosje, wel in een speciaal sigarenkistje. Origineel en leuk. Dat geldt ook voor de acht nummers op dit inmiddels al zevende album van deze landgenoten. Voorganger 'Through Satin Veils Gropes Desire' liet er geen twijfel over bestaan: PN is echt wel goed bezig. Openingstrack "Let The Muse Respond" wisselt tussen hardcore en melodieuze, sferische metal maar daarna breekt de plaat open. "Stone Roses, Dead Gardens" is fantastsiche stoner song die toch de typische PN vocalen van Johan Quinten kent: aggressief in de refreinen en melodieus en warm tijdens de rest van de song. "Pull Out of This Story" laat een gevoeligere kant van de groep zien maar past volledig bij de overige nummers. Hoogtepunt is ongetwijfeld het titelnummer. De aanzet met enkele pianoaanslagen, de ontroerende guestzang van Annelies Tanghe, de violen die net op het juiste moment passeren,... Ronduit zalig. PN maakt op dit album vooral goeie muziek maar toont ook hoe je enkele niet voor de hand liggende genres mengt tot een geweldig geheel. Dit is zonder twijfel een van de betere releases van dit jaar.

The walls have now truly been broken. Belgian band PN have always been about letting emotions prevail above what was deemed normal in punk rock land. With ‘Through Satin Veils Gropes Desire’ from 2006, the path of golden bricks was lain. And still, as good as that record was, something could have been tuned a bit better. That something must have been the feeling you have when experiencing something for the first time… the first kiss, that first ray of sun on your skin after a long winter, the first time you taste ice cream. ‘From What Rivers Have To Offer’ is even closer to the heart. It took two years in writing, and the band wanted to keep the dynamics of that ‘first time’ right by recording things live in the studio as much as possible. With PN you never talk about just music, lyrics, or the comparison to other bands. They have their hearts on their sleeves, pour everything into the music like rivers to the sea. Everything is allowed: melody, cacophonia, desperate screams, angelic voices, strings, and piano. Eight pieces of art wrapped up gracefully in a wooden cigar box. Want dit oorspronkelijke punk/hardcore kwartet durft ook gas terug te nemen. En zich te ontwikkelen!

This 7th PN release became something special. Not only do they have a regular edition but ‘from what rivers have to offer is also released as a limited wooden box edition and it looks awesome. This special edition and the ‘less is more type of artwork fits PN’s music nicely.
Still rooted in hardcore, punk rock and metal PN follows it’s own path. For ‘from what rivers have to offer’ they even added a more Indy rock, poppy sound to their already broad inspired groovy atmospheric sound. This is illustrated the best with the title track in the middle of the album; it has Annelies Tanghe on vocals. The song is the best example of how silence can express a strong feeling. PN really surprised me with this release and to be honest I really like it. The two-year break at the end of 2006 paid off. 8.5/10

Now what more can be said about PN without falling into superlatives and national chauvenistism? I mean, in their genre they are quite unique in Belgium. They started back in Autumn 1992, the original bandname being Portie Nootjes and playing a somewhat "simpler" mixture of punk Rock and Hardcore, primarily influenced by the likes of Bad Religion (and other more "complex" Hardcore acts). However, from the start it was clear that this band would not be limited to any musical constraints, the individual musicians wanting to incorporate additional influences as their progress as musicians would allow it!
As it so happens, I've followed this band from its humble beginnings, and after a couple of demos followed December 1996's Romance, which already showed an extra hint of Metal influences which impressed enough people to allow PN to play a shitload of shows all over Bellgium. The ensuing Daybreak Serenity (released late 1998)showed a shift in the band's influences towards a mixture of Newschool Hardcore and passionate, emotionally driven vocals. In January 1999 the band records 3 tracks for a split with Reply, Circle, and Exit Nineteen, the songs showing a further shift of influences, the vocals becoming even more emotional and driven (say Screamo for good measure). During 2000 the band records for the first time with Dirk Miers at his Dé Studio, and although the resulting album was still loàded with melody, Our Pitiful Paradise became the most heavy outing PN made up to that moment! One year later PN is again in the studio, this time to combine half a dozen new songs with live videos recorded at the 2000 Pukkelpop gig to make the Dreamwave Heroes mini-CD. Working up to the next recording, PN slow down their concert agenda booking, thus freeing time to work more elaborately on new material.and late 2002's 6-tracker The Art Of Being We clearly shows the effort put into the album, with traces of the progressive influences from such artists as Neurosis.or rather early Isis (it even impresses enough to entice US label Life Sentence into licencing the mini-album, PN recording some extra songs and adding the Dreamwave Heroes EP to make this US release a bit more interesting). In early 2004 PN feels like experimenting a bit, and invites piano player Tom Bessemans to the rehearsal studio. Re-arranging some old songs and writing a couple of new semi-acoustic tracks, the band plays this set during a special 5-gig tour, recording the last session at Hasselt's Muziek-O-Droom venue to become the track-list for the September 2005 released live album Live At The MOD. 2006 sees the band venture in an even wider array of calm-versus-aggressive music, adding more and more Progressive and atmospheric elements into that year's album Through Satin Veil Gropes Desire. Personally, I liked what I heard só much that, having already bought the CD, I also hunted down a copy of the vinyl version of the album!
The new album is very much a continuation of the band's drift to experimentation (during 2007 and 2008, they've put together quite a few ideas, dismissed just as many, and were left with something that is unparalleled in their career), although I'm sure many people already familiar with the band's previous releases might lift an eyebrow or two at a first listening session! Let's go over the album track-by-track, shall we? "Let The Muse Respond" opens the album with an atmopheric intro (including also djembe play) before growing into a Progressive mid-paced Post-Hardore tainted passage with lead singer Johan Quinten's clean vocals contrasting against his brother (also the guitarist of the band) Bert's shouted growls (he also puts in a couple of clean backings though).and ending with something which is actually rather close to Stoner Rock/ Metal! The ensuing "Stone Roses, Dead Gardens" sees that Stoner-style return, evidently with a very pominent bass, and again with contrasting vocals. These two heavier tracks past, it's time for a calmer interlude, starting with the beautiful "Pull Out Of This Story" (during which Bert's backing vocals are clean only). The ensuing album title track is the one that might have you being amazed at first listen, as it's an acoustic track in which the music is provided by Bert playing piano, and one Beatrijs De Klerck doing the same with her violin. Vocals on this track are done entirely by one Annelies Tanghe, a young Leuven based artist with the sexiest raspy/ hoarse voice you've ever heard (formerly of Rock act JinXS, she also contributed backing vocals to the song "De Laatste Keer on the 2008 Nagelbijter album of DutchPop singer Sam Janssens - currently going under the nickname of Iza, she should have her debut solo effort out soon.and you can be sure I'll be one of the many people wanting to check that out. Now if that stirred your interest, check out myspace.com/tangheannelies), even if the somewhat sedate song is also the most melancholic one on the album! "Unleash The Lions" continues in the calmer vein, although with somewhat more distorted guitar (not quite atmospheric, but not quite heavy either), and the nicest "ooh-ooh" backings you've ever heard this band do! A return to the atmospherically calm/heavy repetitive/ Progressive comes with the ensuing "How Can I Be You", which has a focal role for the more aggressive vocals, even if Johan still brings in a couple of clean passages as well! Actually, there's even a passage where the two blend together with a third, weirdly monotonous/ melancholic, one. The heavy atmospheric mood continues with Favours And Favourites", for which part of Johan's clean vocals were put through a vocoder; second vocals are courtesy of a raging Bert again! This track being 6:43 long (longest on the album) then allows for a calmer (2-minute) interlude (during which the vocoder is switched off), but again grows towards an explosion of emotions towards the end of the song! Album closing track ("What," you'll say, "that soon?".well, the album only lasts just under 34 minutes, would you believe?) "Mise En Abime" is an atmospheric instrumental, in which the starring role is first laid upon bassist Jimmy Van Rietvelde (drummer Jurgen Vermaelen showing considerable and admirable restraint throughout the track), the guitarist playing at that moment rather etherically. When the latter comes to the fore halfway the track (which is only 128 seconds in length anyway) the bass still remains poundingly present, albeit in atmospheric terms!

I've always had a special place for this band in my heart, even at the very beginning, but I have to admit it's the band's musical prowess which won me over to including their material in my year-lists! By the way, the copy Johan handed me over came in a somewhat weird package, with the album wrapped in a poster-size packing paper, laid in a cigar box with the essential artwork printed on. Nice, very nice.but I suppose it's a limited edition of the album! Can't wait to go get myself a vinyl copy of the album as well!

Het gaat al geruime tijd goed met de Vlaamse muziekscène. En nee, we hebben het nu niet over Milk Inc. en konsoorten, maar over échte muziek. Vorig jaar kregen we al prachtige platen van ondermeer Amen Ra, Maudlin en The Black Heart Rebellion voorgeschoteld, dit jaar is het de beurt aan het Brabantse PN. De band rond de broers Johan 'Jokke' (zang) en Bert Quinten (gitaar), beiden ook actief in de punkrockformatie Homer, timmert al bijna vijftien jaar lang aan de weg en heeft op die tijd een serieuze back catalogue opgebouwd. Hoewel ze bij het grote publiek nooit écht zijn doorgebroken, kunnen ze op een trouwe fanbasis rekenen. En terecht, want de meningen over 'Through Satin Veils Gropes Desire', de laatste studioplaat van de band, waren unaniem lovend. Daardoor kwam de lat voor diens opvolger des te hoger te liggen.
Gelukkig beschikt PN, in tegenstelling tot heel wat andere (lees: bekendere) groepen, over genoeg knowhow en klasse om bij elke plaat vooruitgang te boeken. Dat bewijzen ze dan ook met hun nieuwste album, 'From What Rivers Have To Offer'. Volgens hun MySpace-pagina speelt PN een mix van hardcore en metal. En inderdaad, 'From What Rivers Have To Offer' biedt voor elk wat wils. 'Let The Muse Respond' en 'Stone Roses, Dead Gardens' zullen zowel door stoner-als metalfans gesmaakt worden, terwijl PN in 'How Can I Be You?' (onze favoriet) en 'Favours and Favourites' de postcore-toer opgaat. 'Pull Out Of This Story' en (vooral) titeltrack 'From What Rivers Have To Offer' leggen dan weer de meer ingetogen kant van de band bloot. Voor laatstgenoemde song deed PN een beroep op de Leuvense Annelies Tanghe, als soloartieste ook wel bekend als IZA. Toen we dit nummer voor het eerst hoorden, dachten we zowaar even dat PN Lou Rhodes van Lamb had weten te strikken. Wát een stem!!!
Maar ook de vocals van Johan Quinten doen daar niet voor onder: zijn cleane zangstem doet ons zelfs terugdenken aan de tijd dat John Garcia met wijlen Kyuss menig podia onveilig maakte. Tevens beschikt hij over een oerkreet die zonder de minste moeite een beer uit zijn winterslaap zou kunnen wekken. De andere muzikanten weten trouwens ook goed waar ze mee bezig zijn. Sla er daarvoor de lekker lang uitgesponnen instrumentale outro (inclusief een vette dubbele baspartij) van 'Favours and Favourites' maar eens op na. Jammer genoeg duren lange liedjes nooit lang, want na dik dertig minuten en acht songs zit 'From What Rivers Have To Offer' er al op.
'From What Rivers Have To Offer' van PN verveelt geen nanoseconde. Meer nog: in onze ogen (en oren) kan de band zich zonder blikken of blozen met meer internationale acts meten. Op de korte duur van de plaat na, hebben we dan ook hoegenaamd niks aan te merken op 'From What Rivers Have To Offer'. Dat PN ook oog voor detail heeft, bewijst de verpakking en het artwork van 'From What Rivers Have To Offer'. Elk album steekt namelijk in een houten sigarendoosje, waardoor de plaat al snel een heus hebbeding pleegt te worden. Klasse!!!
P.S.: Fans van de broertjes Quinten en van punkrock met een lichtmetalen randje worden trouwens op hun wenken bediend: binnen een maand verschijnt 'Wasteland Reflections', de nieuwe Homer. Way to go, Jokke!

To me, PN play a highly developed, intricate and subtle blend of post hardcore and rock that got basterdized and labelled as Emo... that awful, awful word. I truly believe that this is what it was supposed to sound like but this is way too experienced and dexterous for just anyone to be able to write or play, especially dumb kids, so they watered it down, killed any soul it had and retailed it as ‘Emo‘. See, I’m a dirty fucking punk who can’t concentrate for more than 2 minutes so the drill for me is fast and snotty but I grew up with bands like PINK FLOYD and SYD BARRET and PN to me sounds like post-hardcore blended with that style of peculiar and sophisticated song-writing and, shit, I’ve never seen that in any other fucking ‘Emo’ band I can tell you that. This is far from retail music... this is really passionate and well-written and should be on every Emo-kid’s shelf because they need to learn the art of their genre. Whatever happened to subtlety??? 99.9% of those kids could really learn something from a band like PN and see that it’s about real passion and not a trend.

Het Belgische PN gaat inmiddels al weer 14 jaar mee, en hun genreoverschrijdende stijl is nog steeds moeilijk te definiëren. Zelf hebben ze er het label 'post emo hardcore’ opgeplakt, en ik denk dat dat de lading inderdaad wel behoorlijk dekt.
Met "Through Satin Veils Gropes Desire" tonen ze zich een band van uitersten. Zowel binnen één nummer als tussen de verschillende nummers zijn grote contrasten te horen. Rauwe en hardere stukken die soms op het maniakale af klinken, worden afgewisseld met ingetogen, breekbare passages die een haast serene schoonheid ademen.
Het album heeft een erg mooie opbouw, die van begin tot eind weet te boeien. Het openingsnummer, waarin cleane zang en schreeuwende vocalen elkaar afwisselen, begint vrij stevig. Deze trend wordt ook nog doorgezet in het tweede nummer "Circle of Promises". Zanger Johan begint erg rustig, om dan halverwege toch z’n scheur flink open te trekken. Vervolgens daalt er een rust neer in een drietal mooie ingehouden nummers. Even geen geschreeuw of scheurende gitaren, maar heldere (soms tweestemmige) zang over sfeervolle muziek. Ondanks de kalmte, wordt er door de meeslepende opbouw toch een zekere spanning opgebouwd in deze nummers. Een beetje een stilte voor de storm gevoel zeg maar, dat bands als A Perfect Circle of Pelican vaak ook oproepen.
Vanaf het zesde nummer, met een gitaarsound die niet zou misstaan op een Life Of Agonyplaat, gaan ze dan toch weer voor het wat stevigere werk. Na een instrumentaal nummer en het intense "Being in love with life", dat qua vocalen wel gelijkenis vertoont met Face Tomorrow, eindigen ze met een van de hardste nummers van het album: "Control, explore… reject". Dries Mangelschots van labelgenoot The Maple Room gromt hierop ook een potje mee. De outro van deze track is overigens wel weer rustig.
De plaat stemt niet bepaald vrolijk door de melancholische sfeer die over de muziek hangt. Waar lyrics als "Black rain falls down on me. Ice cold water breaks my skin. When fear and darkness show the way, beloved skies turn into grey" of "A sea of blood is not enough to drown all my sorrows…" nog eens extra aan bijdragen. 's Nachts in het donker met een koptelefoon op een flink volume komt de sfeer dan ook het beste tot z’n recht. Het mooie artwork, met krullen en bloemen, en mensen/instrumenten waarvan de contouren gedeeltelijk zichtbaar zijn achter een satijnen oppervlak past qua sfeer ook perfect in het totaalplaatje.
Al met al heeft PN met "Through Satin Veils Gropes Desire" een afwisselend album afgeleverd vol contrasten, waarmee menige genregrens wordt overschreden. Desondanks weten ze constant een bepaalde sfeer vast te houden die als een rode draad door het album loopt, waardoor het toch als een geheel klinkt. Petje af!

La formation du groupe belge remonte à 1991 et l'une des particularités du groupe c'est que leur chanteur est aussi le fondateur du très respecté label belge Funtime Records et le guitariste n'est autre que son frère.
Leur musique est un savant mélange de hardcore torturé et d'emo pour former un hardcore émotionnel d'une grande classe, loin de tous les clichés américains du genre. Leur passage plus hardcore ou emo sont d'une grande qualité tant l'un que l'autre. Les chansons me font un peu pensé à un mélange des 2 époques de Cave In avec le hardcore de Cave In de leur début et l'emo de Antenna. La voix de Johan est excellente, il maîtrise énormément bien sa voix entre les passages chantés et criés.
Sûrement l'un des groupes les plus intéressant d'Europe dans le genre, et donc aussi l'un des album les plus intéressant. Un must à écouter. En tout cas c'est beau.

Een bescheiden verrassing, dit Through Satin Veils Gropes Desire. Wie had immers gedacht dat PN veertien jaar na oprichting nog eens met De Plaat op de proppen komt?
Het alleszeggende werk waar een band over tien jaar nog steeds trots op kan terugkijken. Waarom? Omdat PN het venijn van Length Of Time met de inventiviteit van Tool weet te vermengen. Troostend, soms zelfs kalmerend, maar plotsklaps ook weer bijtend. Korte, verblindende aanvallen die een intense pijn opwekken. Veel Weltschmerz dus; neem Cleaning Up Is Taking All Of You. Net zo fatalistisch als een Life Of Agony ten tijde van Ugly. Of Alice In Chains. Dit zijn natuurlijk niet de minste referenties. Maar die zouden ook niet genoemd worden bij een cd die níet zo spannend en tegelijk zo overdonderend is. In het geval van PN mag het dus. En daarmee kan het adjectief ‘bescheiden’ waarmee deze recensie opent eigenlijk ook wel weg. Maak er maar groots van. PHILIPPUS ZANDSTRA

Live at the MOD is nog maar koud uit, en er dient zich alweer een volgend PN-album aan. Daarmee is PN een van de meest productieve bands uit België. Zonder aan kwaliteit in te boeten of albums te vullen met in de haast gecomponeerde nummers, zo blijkt uit Through Satin Veils Gropes Desire.
Integendeel, het album ademt onverwacht sereniteit. Het verschil met de onstuimige emocore uit de begindagen van de band is groot. Opener ‘Give up on Routine’ wekt de indruk dat PN afstevent op de reputatie van Belgische Deftones. Het daarop volgende hoofdstuk smoort die gedachte echter in de kiem. Een vijftal rustig voortkabbelende en uitgebalanceerde liedjes laten een PN horen dat niet meer zonodig tegen elke boom hoeft aan te blaffen.
Met de eindstreep in zicht begint het toch weer te jeuken en trekt men enkele malen fel van leer met rauwe gitaren en schreeuwvocalen. Een staat van totale rust is nog niet aan de orde, maar PN maakt de weg vrij voor treurige liedjes vol subtiliteiten.

Even denk ik dat ik een nieuwe Neurosis plaat in mijn cd-speler heb gestopt. Niets is echter minder waar. De broeierige, sfeervolle klanken worden geproduceerd door het Vlaamse PN. Van heuse hardcoreband zijn de Belgen inmiddels geëvolueerd naar een stroming die een stuk moeilijker in een hokje te proppen is.
Het openingsnummer Givin’ Up On Routine laat er alleszins geen gras over groeien. In tegenstelling tot vorige platen wordt de voet bij heftige stukken wat meer van het gaspedaal afgehouden. Deze stukken blijken in de minderheid te zijn op de plaat, aangezien er veel geëxperimenteerd wordt met lang uitgesponnen, rustige stukken.
Het geduld van de hardcoreliefhebber wordt na Circle of Promises wel even op de proef gesteld, aangezien zanger Johan 3 nummers lang er geen zin in heeft om zijn brulboei open te trekken. Dat doet hij best degelijk, al moet ik zeggen dat deze rustige nummers wel wat van de spanning verliezen die er aanvankelijk te bespeuren viel.
Bij Cleaning Up Is Taking All Of You gaat de beuk er weer even in. De combinatie van het tergend langzame tempo, en de over-the-top vocalen werken erg goed, en hier en daar lijkt PN zichzelf wel even als een doomband te beschouwen.
De diversiteit aan genres is niet mis. De oude hardcore invloeden zijn hier en daar nog te horen, maar ook genres als metalcore, screamo, mathcore, emo en ga zo maar door, vallen in het kleurenpalet van PN te bespeuren. Hierdoor komen we gelijk bij het grootste plus- en minpunt van dit album.
Door de veelheid aan genres blijft het wel een afwisselend album. Echter, de gekozen richting wordt niet helemaal duidelijk. De structuur van het geheel blijkt niet helemaal helder te zijn, waardoor de band soms even de weg kwijt lijkt te zijn.
Niettemin blijft het een zeer degelijke plaat. Fans van Neurosis, Poison the Well en ons eigen Textures doen er goed aan dit album eens een luisterbeurt te geven.

De Belgen van PN zitten niet stil. Na “The Art Of Being ‘We’” voert PN de onderhuidse spanningen nog verder op. Broeierige emo, hardcore, vlagen hatecore en op heel wat momenten prachtig weemoedige ingetogenheid die de rake uitbarstingen op de plaat compenseert. PN houdt van spanningsopbouw om zich vervolgens roekeloos te storten in een kakfonie van schijnbare chaos en daarmee zal de band nog heel wat hoge ogen gooien. Want zowel fans van The Dillinger Escape Plan als Tool kunnen zich vinden in de donkere zielenroerselen van deze Belgische band. Textures heeft er een volwaardige sparringpartner bij.

After 15 years, PN is still going strong. And over the course of the years, they’ve evolved from a crossover-band (really, crossover!) through a real metalcore period into a band that approaches hardcore, rock and metal in their own way. Influences from bands like Tool, Thrice, even Jimmy Eat World and earlier Poison The Well are still recognizable, but PN thrives on atmosphere and emotion rather than sounding like the most successful bands around. Point of criticism is, that I would like to have some more tempo on some parts of the album, but basically, this is good stuff. The quality is excellent, the mastering was done at Westwestside by Alan Douches. Those are things that contribute to this album. Details are clear, singing is crystal and well, what more can I say? This is good stuff for people who are sick of the Hawthorn Heights, Thursday and other faux-screamo bands, but love the approach to music in that genre.

Die Belgier PN sind mit Sicherheit eine Ausnahmeerscheinung und eine der wenigen Gruppen, die aktuellen Strömungen nicht hinterherläuft, sondern Musik im Stile von Into Another macht, die zusehends virtuoser, vielschichtiger und epischer wird. Nach der Akustik-EP flieBen nun sogar Elemente Sakraler Musik ein, jedoch hat man zu meiner Erleichterung auch wieder den Verzerrerknopf am Verstärker gefunden. Die zarten 14 Jahre Erfahrung und über 600 gespielten Konzerte kommen dem Klang der Gruppe und dem des neuen Albums natürlich zu Gute. Insgesamt hat man beide Enden des Spektrums, sowohl die agressiven passagen, als auch in den gefühlvollen Momente, bis zu den Extremen strapaziert. So treffen atmosphärische Teile, die mit DREDG vergleichbar wären, auf derbsten Geröchel und messerscharfe Gitarren. Wer Abwechslung und Unberechenbarkeit zu schätzen weiB, sollte sich 'Through satin veils gropes desire' defenitiv mal anhören, und falls euch der name PN gar nichts sagt, dann ist der neue Langspieler eine wunderbare Möglichkeit, sich mal näher bekannt zu machen. ‘Through Satin Veils Gropes Desire’
Het Belgische PN (Portie Nootjes) ontstond als een hardcoreband die openstond voor vele invloeden als metal, emo en punkrock. Die voorliefde bleek onder andere uit 'Romance' en 'Our Pitiful Paradise'. Na de release van die laatste speelden PN in de zomer van 2000 op Pukkelpop, waar ze een goede ontvangst kregen van honderden hardcorefans. Na hun laatste studioalbum 'the Art of Being We' en de liveplaat van hun optreden te Hasselt, 'Live at the MOD', brengen PN nu 'Through Satin Veils Gropes Desire' uit, hun vijfde langspeler. Die wordt beschreven als 'post-emo-hardcore op z'n meest intense niveau', maar wat is dit nu in mensentaal?
Het opmerkelijkste aan 'Through Satin Veils Gropes Desire' is dat er meer kalme nummers zijn en dat de harde, die trager zijn dan voorheen, meer kalme passages hebben gekregen. Dat betekent echter niet dat de band aan hardheid heeft moeten inboeten: 'Givin' Up On Routine' opent de plaat stevig met de afwisselende screams en heldere vocalen van zanger Johan begeleid door ruige distortiongitaren over groovy drums. Verder zorgen nummers als 'Circle of Promises' en 'Cleaning Up Is Taking All of You' ook voor dat smaakvolle recept. De trage, sfeervolle kant van de groep komt onder andere tot uiting op het fantastisch melodieuze 'Fighting Shadow of the Past', het klagerige maar toch pakkende 'Frozen Intentions' en de tweede helft van afsluiter 'Control, Explore... Reject'. Op dat nummer wordt een kalme tokkelende gitaar naar het einde vergezeld door zachte elektronica en de zweverige hoge nootjes van een tweede gitaar.
PN heeft enerzijds zin voor vooruitgang en is niet bang van experimenteren, dat is duidelijk. De richting waarin deze band gaat, is anderzijds niet zo duidelijk. Maar feit is wel dat het gelijke aandeel aan hardheid en zachtheid gelukt is in een sprankelende en pakkende mengeling van (post)hardcore, emo en metal.

PN sind eine dieser belgischen Hardcore-Bands, die bereits über Jahre in ihrer heimischen Szene aktiv sind. Allerdings können sie wohl behaupten, auch außerhalb Belgiens einen gewissen Bekanntheitsgrad zu genießen. Nach 14 Jahren Bandgeschichte ist das auch nicht weiter verwunderlich. Fest steht: Auch PN sind keine Offenbarung. Die Jungs verstehen ihr Handwerk ohne Frage, spielen letztlich aber Hardcore wie er auch von zig anderen Gruppen stammen könnte. Wäre da nicht Ende 2004 eine Live-CD erschienen, auf der sie ihre Akustik-Tour verewigten - und zeigten, was wirklich in ihnen steckt. Auf "Through Satin Veils Gropes Desire" zeigen sie diese Qualitäten erneut, auch wenn der Hardcore an erster Stelle steht. Laute Gitarren, schleppende Parts und Geschrei gibt es darauf. Wenig aufregend, schon tausendmal gehört. Doch dann kommen diese Momente in denen Johan Quinten singt. Das kann er! Heraus kommen ein paar wunderbare Stücke, die Indierock mit mal mehr, mal weniger Hardcore verknüpfen, etwas Abwechslung bieten und die Lichtblicke auf dieser CD darstellen. Der Rest sind solide Hardcore-Ergüsse, die Fans vermutlich immer noch begeistern, die man aber nicht im Regal stehen haben muss. Der Eindruck festigt sich, dass in die Indiesongs mehr Arbeit geflossen ist und dass sie den wichtigeren Teil der CD darstellen. Neben dunklen, harten Stücken ist das Album damit auch streckenweise schön und atmosphärisch - bevor es dann wieder laut und eintönig wird.

Sometimes i prefer not to write something for a record because i believe that words aren't enough to describe what you hear. This feeling i have from the start that i hear the latest album from PN who comes from Belgium and give to us the opportunity to hear their work.
The title that they have choose to have is "Through Satin Veils Gropes Desire" and they have included nine tracks and about forty five minutes of music that you can describe it as post emo hardcore.
Personally i hate to put labels in the music and i prefer to hear and feel the things that every band gives to us through their works. For example PN had combined the extreme and aggressive parts of music with the melodies and the experimental elements too.
Even if i am not a huge fan of this kind of music, when a band gives something to the listener i am always open to hear and try to feel it. I recommend you to buy this album or just to hear it and see what PN put inside this record.

14 years of passionate music sums up PN's career. 'Through satin veils gropes desire' follows the path PN was holding on lately: atmospheric and melancholic heartcore mostly intimate and fragile but with the necessary aggression. I had mixed feelings with some of their previous releases because of the more softer and slower approach. I still have these feelings but I'm pleased that 'Through satin veils gropes desire' has became a multy layered album with fragile an intimate tunes ('circle of promises', 'frozen intentions', …) and aggressive songs ('being in love with live'; control, explore … reject'). To be honest I'm not very fond on some of the soft and melancholic songs but I have a positive feeling about the entire album although I prefer a more aggressive PN. I always considered PN as a quality band with first class musicians and I still do. The CD is also available in a great gatefold coloured LP version.

“Ze brengen uit wat op dat moment in is”, zegt de ene, “Strength through diversity” denkt de ander. Vandaag speelt PN (Portie Nootjes voor de vrienden) naar eigen zeggen ‘post emo hardcore’. Vroeger deden ze newschool, metal en punkrock. En of PN een octopus is. 'Through Satin Veils Gropes Desire' briest, grolt en mijmert tegelijk. Hier en daar hoor je catchy maar subtiele pianostukken, "Being In Love With Life" herbergt dumdum en djerbouka drumpartijen en "Kill Minus" gaat volledig instrumentaal. Naast verlangen zoekt vooral la musica zich een constante weg naar buiten langs de strot van Johan ‘Chewbacca’ Quinten. Zijn band arbeidt ondertussen veertien jaar aan een niet clichématige carrière in de Europese hardcorescene. De nieuwe PN is uit op Funtime Records (CD) en op Rearviewmirrorrecords (LP). Van die LP zijn maar 500 exemlaren gedrukt. Bij de eerste 100 exemplaren zit de CD-versie plus een extra CD met remixes van PN songs door Kalder (Lady Vortex) en Zen For Birds (soundscapes/drone wizards).

Singer Johan of the Belgian PN, is also the main force behind the label Funtime. And, just like the label name suggests, these guys know how to have fun. PN is however also serious business, linking music, lyrics and artwork together, and trying to travel deeper into the core of their being, with every release they have put out over the course of 10 years. Wow, it's ten years already. I am still wondering why this amazing mixture of pop, punk, stoner, emo and the occasional hardcore outburst hasn't conquered the world, or Europe to say the least. Would it have something to do with the fact these guys do not get limited by any rules? A feature they share with countrymen Death Before Disco, trying to get their emotions out as pure as they come. It's not easy to get grips on the band, let that be clear from the start. So just stop reading and try looking for a quick fix somewhere else if that's what you're into. This band has just so many angles, I don't know where to begin. Imagine putting a photobook to words, you'll get the picture, right? PN has always done so, but with this new cd, they are more and more heading into an Elliott meets Pink Floyd-like direction, with Danzig like darkness... Dreamy, spacy ballad like songs trying to put you into a trance, if it weren't for the heavy furious parts, reminding me of Relapse bands, that keep you on your toes. Again a record where a totally different part of the bands soul is revealed. The label heartcore has never been more apropriate.

Three years after their debut EP The Art Of Being We, Belgium's PN finally releases their first full-length CD. Again their music is very hard to classify, but the band offers some help by calling it post emo hardcore. And I think that this will give you a general idea what PN is all about.
The album can be divided into three parts. The first two songs Givin' Up On Routine and Circle Of Promises are two diverse tracks that often change from melodic parts to angry eruptions full of bad emotions.
The next three songs are much smoother with no angry passages. They are quite slow, but never become boring because of the song writing's depth. The vocals are soft and hypnotic, with parallels to Radiohead and Tool. The bass shows that PN also have some jazz influences. Frozen Intentions is the most epic track on the album, but never gets too complicated to follow. Out Of Balance has a nice melody and could be used as a single outtake. Leaning Up Is Taking All Of You is the albums darkest track and suitable for metal heads. It's followed by Kill Minus 9, an instrumental but weird track with some free jazz ideas. The last two tracks are again two songs which follow the path of the two first ones.
PN have been able to keep the high level from the debut EP which doesn't surprise me too much because this band has been together since 1992 and surely knows what to do. There are no clichés on the record and fans from Tool, Thursday and Poison The Well will find enough convincing arguments to get this album.

Es ist schon komisch, diese CD zu hören, wenn man PN vor Jahren mal live gesehen hat. Eigentlich spielen die Belgier Hardcore und kommen nicht ohne Shoutings aus. Und jetzt? Ob man den Sound auf dieser CD nun als Emo oder Indie-Irgendwas bezeichnet, macht wohl keinen großen Unterschied. Aber ein Keyboard hatten sie damals nicht dabei, dafür laute Gitarren. Nun, das haben sie für diese Tour gegeneinander eingetauscht. Vor allem kann man bei den sieben Songs nicht einmal behaupten, dass da irgendwo noch Hardcore-Anteile wären. Anlass für diesen Sound war wohl das 10-jährige Jubiläum der Band, zu dem sie eine Tour mit intimeren Sound spielen wollten.
Letztlich sind die Songs aber tatsächlich gut und PN beweisen damit, dass auch in Hardcore-Bands "richtige" Musiker sein können. Vorwürfen, das sie ja nur Krach machen könnten, werden sie wohl zukünftig diese CD entgegensetzten. Auch die Produktion stimmt, kein kratziger Sound, man könnte fast meinen, es wäre ein Studioalbum. Nur kommt so natürlich auch gar nichts von einer Liveshow rüber. Am Ende eines jeden Songs wird brav geklatscht, während die Musik läuft, hört man aber auch nur diese. "Live at the MOD" ist also durchaus eine gute CD, die Songs live aufzunehmen hat aber überhaupt nichts gebracht. Passend für ein Emo-Konzert haben PN auch noch Jimmy Eat Worlds wunderbares "Hear You Me" gecovert, was auch von PN vorgetragen richtig schön ist. Gute CD also, die eine andere Seite der sonst so wilden Band präsentiert - nur das "Live"-Label ist einfach total überflüssig.

België's bekendste hardcoreband PN heeft er weer een cd bij, getiteld "The Art Of Being 'We'". Het is inmiddels hun zesde cd in zeven jaar, maar dat ze hun originaliteit en kracht nog lang niet verloren hebben zal wel blijken.
Ze begonnen al in 1992 en werkten zichzelf op door middel van demo's totdat ze in 1997 hun eerste cd konden opnemen, getiteld "Romance". Later kwamen hier nog een aantal full-cd's, splits en mini cd's bij. PN werd, mede dankzij het Funtime label, 1 van de bekendste en populairste hard/heartcore acts van België. Het was ondertussen al 3 jaar geleden dat ze nog eens een full-cd uitgebracht hadden dus werd "The Art Of Being 'We'" opgenomen, het resultaat ervan ligt nu voor mij.
De albumtitel slaat terug op de punk- en hardcorescene die de huidige normen en waarden in vraag stelt. Een goede titel is nog maar een begin natuurlijk, het album moet ook nog opgevuld worden met goede, sterke nummers die blijven hangen. Deze zijn echter ook goed vertegenwoordigd, het zijn stuk voor stuk erg knappe liedjes. Het zijn echter geen cliché-hardcore nummers, maar rustigere, melancholische nummers met hier en daar een emotionele uitbarsting van zanger Johan Quinten.
De hele cd zit goed in elkaar, maar eigenlijk kan dit ook moeilijk anders, het album bevat namelijk maar zes nummertjes en klokt af op minder dan dertig minuten. Dit zou ik ook meer klasseren onder de noemer van mini-cd dan te zien als full-cd. Het feit dat ik de cd te kort vind, kan natuurlijk ook met de fenomenale nummers te maken hebben en dat ik meer wil van deze band.
"The Art Of Being 'We'" is dus een bijna-must voor elke zichzelf respecterende hardcore-liefhebber. PN speelt niet het soort muziek die je verwacht van de omschrijving, iets wat in dit genre zeker en vast als een groot compliment gezien mag worden.

PN must be Belgian’s best known hardcore band. This is their fourth full length already and they also released a few split and mini cd’s. They play that kind of hardcore as Grade, Deftones, Boys Sets Fire,… but they don’t just copy them, they have a very own style. This new record is more emo than the former ones, but it’s still a typical PN release. Don’t copy this album, but buy it, ‘cause the guy who did the artwork (Geert van Grunderbeek) really did a great job!

The art of being "we" is de enigzins mysterieuze, maar toch veelzeggende titel van het nieuwste ambachtelijke werkje van het Vlaamse PN. Al meer dan 10 jaar werken Funtime Records eigenaar Johan en zijn bandmaatjes aan het perfectioneren van hun vorm van emotionele hardcore. Uit de drie eerder verschenen recensies van mijn hand hier op Festivalinfo, kun je al opmaken dat ik zeer gecharmeerd ben van deze muziek. Helaas heb ik PN nog niet live gezien, iets wat hopelijk snel zal veranderen. Want dit is wederom erg mooi.
Hoewel er gedurende de zes nummers op deze cd nauwelijks snelheidsuitbarstingen te horen zijn, zit het met het loskomen van zeer oprecht overkomende emoties nog steeds goed. Eerst zacht gevooisd, dan weer getergde geluiden uit de tenen op een bedje van slepend gitaarspel (Denk The Spirit That Guides Us en Face Tomorrow voor Nederlands vergelijkingsmateriaal). Als je hebt genoten van de mini-cd 'Dreamwave Heroes' en het album 'Our Pitiful Paradise', dan zul je hiermee ook uit de voeten kunnen. De middelste twee nummers vormen het hoogtepunt op de cd. 'Where naivety meets reality, stars are born' heeft het lekkerste ruigse stuk en 'Blame me you them us' (waarvan binnenkort een heuse videoclip verschijnt) heeft dankzij de weinige rafelrandjes enige hitpotentie bij meer mainstream georiënteerd publiek. PN maakt muziek om in je eentje bij gedempt licht naar te luisteren en in te zwelgen alsof het je lievelingsboek is.
Hoewel PN in haar carriére al veel bereikt heeft, verdient deze band veel meer dan zij tot nu toe gekregen heeft. Hoewel de muziek niet echt hard is, vertegenwoordigt de band alle positieve kanten van alles wat hardcore genoemd kan worden. Oprechte bevlogenheid, passie en een positieve do it yourself mentaliteit. Bij deze wil ik iedereen die de voorkeur geeft aan echte en oprechte muziek, in wat voor genre dan ook, oproepen om hier eens naar te luisteren. PN is dan wel een slechte bandnaam, maar dit boek dient niet op zijn omslag beoordeeld te worden.

'Dreamwave heroes' Funtime records/Stick To The Core
Quelle surprenante progression pour PN, qui avec ce nouveau MCD 4 titres nous balace un hardcore qui s'est considérablement arrangé, à tel point qu'on dirait un groupe US de néo métal à la mode. La production se veut plus carré avec la mise en avant des guitares qui sonnent plus mélodiques. Les vocaux mieux travaillés, laissent plus de place à des lignes mélodiques comme "Frame For Better Future" et "Dreamwave Heroes" qui sont les titres fort de ce skeud. C'est un peu comme une version hardcore de P.O.D. Vous imaginez à quel point ces 4 titres à la production dynamique peuvent être bons !!!. A se procurer de toute urgence !!!...

PN ind wohl eine der aktivsten und bekanntesten Bands aus belgischen Landen und feiert 2002 ihr 10jähriges Jubiläum. Our Pitiful paradise ist zwar schon etwas älter, aber dennoch wert besprochen zu werden. Ihr Musikspektrum ist sehr weit gefächert und spricht deshalb wohl jeden Hardcoreliebhaber ein wenig an. Einen weiteren Teil trägt die fette und wirklich gute Produktion bei, die das ganze sehr professionell klingen lässt. Von emotionell zu wütenden Parts, vom rockigen zu puren metal Teilen wissen PN wirklich zu begeistern. Das schlichte aber doch schöne Artwork rundet das ganze ab. Ein interessantes Ding, mit sicherheit auch Geschmacksache aber leider in Deutschland noch nicht so bekannt.

If you would pick any Psychology book and look for the word "schizofrenic" they'll come up with words like: hallucinations, antisocial acts and unexpectable sensory stimulation. Well, the same description counts for PN. PN is to be put in some sub-genre; it's crazy how they managed to create such a harmonic sound with all the twisted guitar picks. Some parts are punkrock, some screamo new school and some moody parts get close to Nu-metal. I hope all of you openminded HC kids will give this a try cause this stuff is great. Don't think it's accesible music just because it's built on several kinds of hard music. I think it needs a few times to get really used to the songstructures but I can assure you won't get bored hearing this band!
