« intense, honest and extreme mathcore with socio-political lyrics »
With bands like Rubbish Heap, Facedown/.Calibre, Heartaches, Rain or Victims of Society, the northern part of Belgium (Antwerp), has always played an imprortant role in the Belgian hardcore/punkscene. Reply is/was another hardcore band from this area. They made their debut on a split seven inch with their friends/fellow locals from the already long defunctioned One For Sorrow. Immediatly after this seven inch was released, the band was contacted by Funtime Records and STTC to be part of a split cd with bands like Circle ; Exit nineteen and PN. This split cd did get a warm welcome and sold out quickly. Reply continued to develop their bandsound into a musical mix that’s inspired by mathematic hardcore bands like Converge, Botch, Coalesce and the likes. Lyricwise, Reply could be considered as one of the most socio-political hardcore bands of Belgium, resulting in mind stimulating lyrics and dedicated concerts. Abstract rhythms, intense and heavy breaks and violent noise erruptions are the soundtrack to the message. In 2000, the band launches it’s debut album on funtime records, which is followed by playing out a lot and improving the bandsound and songstructures. In the meantime, Reply is playing more and more in Germany and that’s how they meet the people of indie hardcore label Circulation. Enter 2001. Reply releases the new ep on the German Circulation Records. An ep that shows a band in great shape and with lots of inspiration and controled musical extremeties. The band plays some more shows untill lead singer and founding member Sven (lead vocals) decides to leave the band to start a new life in Switzerland. A new singer is easily found in longtime bandroadie Copi. He takes care of the leadvocals and does the recordings for the new album in the summer of 2003 at Dé Studio. This new record was supposed to come out in 2004 on Circulation records, but in the fall of 2003, Guitarist Kevin announces he wants to retire from the band. This means the end of Reply. A band with honest and dedicated people, gifted and inspiring. We wish all of them the best with their future bands. Reply, rest in peace…
